At FAIRtigung Holz — the woodworking workshop of DIE KÜMMEREI— we restore heavily used armchairs and turn them into high-quality, durable pieces you’ll love for years to come. Our transitional workers work side by side with experienced master craftspeople. Step by step, we pass on practical skills, care, and a strong sense of quality craftsmanship.

The journey of an armchair’s new life:

• Assessment, effort estimation, and quotation
• Photo documentation for later reconstruction
• Careful dismantling — old fabrics reused as cutting patterns
• Refurbishing the spring system: replacing webbing, re-tying the springs
• Sewing in new burlap
• Restoring the African grass mat and stitching it with shaping
• Padding and leveling with horsehair
• Calico cover and restoration of the chair legs
• Cutting the upholstery fabric and sewing on the piping
• Upholstering the seat and backrest
• Upholstering and fitting the panels
• Rebuilding and upholstering the sides and back
• Finished.
